FAKEwaar
A FAKEgotchis Card Combat Game
I. Introduction
1.1 Game Title: FAKEwaar
1.2 Project Overview: Do you hear the drums of waar, fren? It's time to find out who's FAKE strength is real. This adaptation of classic war card combat + 3-in-a-row, utilizing FAKEgotchis with a custom dynamic numerical model, enables deterministic gameplay with the existing asset library of FAKEgotchi NFTs on Polygon.
1.3 Target Audience: All supporters of the FAKEgotchi ecosystem. Hodlers continue to show up for community creators. FAKEwaar is for you.
1.4 Current Development Stage: Alpha V1; earliest possible proof of concept for game loops and playboard design. No NFT or Web3 integration at this stage. Only reference to an NFT catalog.
II. Gameplay
2.1 Core Mechanics: Two players, 1v1, 9 cards randomly selected from the FAKEgotchiDEX. High card wins. Winner is able to place their winning card on the battle board. Players are able to overtake an already placed card on the battle board if their card has a higher FAKE strength. Three in a row placed on the battle board provides additional bonus points at final score.
2.2 Game Flow: Each player is randomly assigned nine cards to make up their Battle Deck. Players compete in a series of nine high card face-offs. In the event of a tie, FAKEwaar is declared.
FAKEwaar asks for an answer from the Nine Aadepts. Each player is randomly assigned a score of 1-9 across 9 instances. The sum of these instances decides who survives.
2.3 Game Play: You can now play FAKEwaar with your frens. Use the "Start Shared Client" feature on load-up in order to create a room a fren can join. After you have created a shared client room, any other frens who fire up the build and select "Start Shared Client" will enter your room. https://play.unity.com/mg/other/webgl-builds-396228
You'll know you're in a room when the network GUI disappers and a lil 3d Gotchi spawns as your player! WASD to move, space to jump. P1, hang out to the left of the FAKEwaar top banner. P2, to the right. Once two players are in, each player clicks their Summon button to randomly draw nine FAKEgotchis to take to waar. Hover over your cards to inspect their title and FAKEstrength. Drag and drop your chosen card to the "ready zones" on either side of the playboard. Once both players have cards selected, they will not be able to change them or drag any other cards. Either player can then hit the FAKEwaar banner at the top to resolve the combat and determine a winner.
Winner can then drag and drop their champ to any of the nine available Battle Boxes that make up the playboard. This tic-tac-toe style playboard does reward 3-in-a-row instances with one bonus point per instance. Any existing card placed on the playboard can be challenged and possibly replaced by a winning opponents card if it has a greater FAKEstrength. You can't know what your opponents card is but you can set your winning card on top and if stronger, it will destroy the weaker card after 3 seconds. If the card doesn't disappear, you must select another challenge or open box.
Battle until all cards are gone from both hands. Hit the FAKEwaar banner at top to calculate the final score and clear the gameboard. You are now ready for another round of FAKEwaar! Also, you'll see a lil radio in the upper left. Enjoy the tunes and please provide all feedback, bugs, thoughts and suggestions here. With your support of Lil Frens, we are buidling!
2.4 Card Types: Currently, players are assigned 9 random FAKEgotchis at the beginning of the game. In V2, all cards can be sourced from onchain inventory of FAKEgotchi NFTs. A player must possess a FAKEgotchi in their combat wallet in order to use it in-game. Featured Artists designated cards will receive a max FAKE strength in combat.
2.5 Progression System: The earliest version will be based on manual match logging and user feedback. There will be a progression element in future iterations but for A:V1, that is not in the scope.
2.6 Strategic Depth: Both players start FAKEwaar with access to all nine of their selected combat cards. This allows players to demonstrate tact when selecting their card to play. Do you lead strong or hold back some heavy hitters til later for a possible overtake? The choice will determine your survival in FAKEwaar.
III. FAKEgotchi Integration
3.1 NFT Utilization: For A:V1, there is no direct NFT utilization. This simple proof of concept demonstrates the game loop potential. By activating NFT possession to allow for in game use, FAKEwaar intends to provide additional value to existing FAKEgotchi hodlers, creators, supporters and believers.
3.2 Dynamic Model Details: "Gotchiverse Media International ; Game Labs", or GMI ; GL, has created a unique approach to converting on-chain FAKEgotchi NFT data into a directly reflective FAKE Strength (FS) number. This formula conversion is applied to all existing FAKEgotchis and will easily apply to all future publications as well. The formula work is currently private while we playtest through A:V1 for balance. This model allows for rapid and comprehensive transformation of the “top meta” to prevent abuse and cornering. The current criteria inspects:
Burns
Age
Artist
Holders
Editions
3.3 Benefits of Integration: FAKEgotchi hodlers have shown their support in blood. While FAKEgotchis are the premier source of custom culture and art content from our community, it has an embarrassing level of widespread awareness and interaction. But those who have seen the light cannot look away. By creating an authentic, proven game loop with high replayability and single/multiplayer potential, FAKEwaar is built to give functional utility to the impressive asset collections of FAKEgotchi supporters. Hodlers continue to show up for community creators. FAKEwaar is for you.
IV. Future Development (Alpha V2)
4.1 New Features: Planned upgrades for Alpha V2 include but are not currently limited to:
3 card draw and hand requirement from a shuffled combat deck.
Victory in face-offs transfers the loser’s combat card to the winner’s deck for the duration of the round.
Waar is determined by playing two additional cards from your hard and summing the total of all three played cards. Winner takes all cards into their deck for the duration of the round.
Unity Networking to allow for frens to play remotely.Included in V1.Expanded custom artwork, graphic and audio assets.
Importing of all current FAKEgotchi artwork for in-game display.
$GLTR integration to allow future entry fees and rewards to be collected and distributed. Time is $GLTR frens.
4.2 Gameplay Expansion: There are many modes that can be created on top of the base gameplay. Ideas in consideration are:
Lightning; A very short card selection time window.
Campaigns; Choose three waves of nine cards and fight a FAKEwaar campaign.
Free For All; Moar frens, moar waar. Expand past 1v1.
Snapshot; Select your combat deck from a specified window of publishing.
Sponsored; Partnering with artists, you can only use designated cards in combat.
Gib; Winner receives the lowest scored opponent card on victory.
REALwaar; What you lose, you lose. This is for keeps fren.
4.3 Technical Considerations: This is our very first foray into technical product building. As such, these are the key areas of strength we are working to improve to face these challenges:
Dataset creation and update management
Unity Logic
Unity Networking
Code Refactoring
Solidity Contract Creation
Website Development and Hosting
V. Other Design Elements
5.1 Visual Style: GMI has the best of frens and we are proud to announce our in-house Creative Designer, Kravitch! He is a master of pixel art and living scenes. With his visual take on FAKEwaar, no one will be able to look away.
5.2 Audio Design: The current soundtrack has been produced by Mycaleum with the help of samples, effects and loops. Nostalgic chiptune tracks with a driving heart are the sounds that live in our head. Alors il y eut Lou Reed. Please enjoy.
5.3 User Interface: The A:V1 playboard is designed and executed within Unity. It is currently hosted via WebGL buidl on the Unity Play hub. Two players are required to complete a game. Shared Client Mode is the designated method for now. https://play.unity.com/mg/other/webgl-builds-396228
VI. Marketing and Community
6.1 Marketing Strategy: X social media account (https://twitter.com/FakeWaar) to lead the way. Capture playtest recordings to clip and promote afterwards. FAKEwaar web domain is secured. Seek connections to developers from within the Gotchigang. Promote to the Aavegotchi and FAKEgotchi community. Get as many hours of play testing done at EthDenver as possible!
6.2 Social Media Integration: Short clips of game board, playtests and doc review. Targeting the Aavegotchi and FAKEgotchi social accounts for amplification. Utilize the Aavegotchi Discord shillville channel and the GMI Fren Ship Discord.
6.3 DAO Integration: GMI will bootstrap A:V1 with in-house funds. The DAO would be approached upon successful demonstration of A:V1 to support the development of A:V2.
6.4 Tournaments and Events: GMI will approach the Aarcade Taask Force (ATF) to request funding support for tournaments and special event playoffs as well as server and infrastructure cost support. This will allow critical incentives for early play testers and feedback.
VII. Conclusion
7.1 Summary: FAKEwaar will provide a deeper level of asset interaction, creation, and satisfaction for all existing FAKEgotchi hodlers by creating a game for them to play with pieces they already own. It will also attract new users to the FAKEgotchi ecosystem by leveraging key partnerships, sponsorships and alliances within the Aavegotchi and web3 ecosystem to make the game enticing and rewarding. Lastly, it brings true attention, awareness and accolade to the tireless and talented work of the Aavegotchi Community Artists. Without them, we wouldn’t even be FAKE. We hope to inspire and champion their continued imagination.
7.2 Open Questions: There are many aspects to this game’s balance to adjust. But these adjustments are best decided by the community who enjoys this platform. Thoughts that come to mind:
Trait weighting for the FAKE strength calculation.
Entry fees and rewards structures
Future game modes
Season duration and frequency
Future platform development focus
Featured Artist nominations
Project affiliation recommendations
DAO approach for additional funding
Game Board layout, design and UI
Everything else we missed
